Group Classes for Seniors
We all want to maintain our independence as long as we can, and a big part of that is keeping our mobility. So how do we do that? In our group class, we take a unique approach by focusing on the vestibular system in addition to your muscles and joints. What does that mean? It means better strength, better balance, and more confidence in your day-to-day life!
Build and Maintain Strength
Having strong muscles keeps us happily bending and lifting, as well as protecting our joints! For instance, strengthening the muscles around your knees can help reduce your pain because it gives the joint more support and stability.
The exercises that we do in class are all designed to be done at home, with minimal equipment. In this part of the class, you’ll generally strengthen your legs, hips, arms.
Challenging Your Balance
Dizziness, balance, or even just feeling unsteady can be a common concern as we age and that is largely due to the changes in our vestibular system that occur naturally in older adults. Part of fall prevention comes down to easy, practical solutions such as the type of shoes you wear and removing hazards like loose rugs. The other part, comes from within you! This is why part of our class is dedicated to challenging your balance in a safe and practiced way, so that you can attain more confidence in your daily life and be better prepared physically for life’s curve balls.
In class you’ll work on exercises such as stepping over small hurdles, rotational exercises, and others!
